Oh an also...

I wish to wear a feather headband like this one (on etsy) but I'm not sure I'm cool and/or young enough to pull it off

Things on my mind today...

1) A few years ago my friend CL admitted to not liking Johnny Depp because she was "sick of all the costumes." At the time I was appalled. I mean, we're talking about MR. 21 JUMPSTREET (not to be confused with Greico).

(mmmmm hmmmmm)
But Pirates of the Caribbean was just on and I have to say...I kind of agree. Captain Jack, Mad hatter, Sweeny Todd, Willy Wonka, Ed Scissorhands. Does he ever just play a PERSON? And does he always have to insist on looking so damn ugly (it doesn't work anyway!)

They should totally have a re-make of 21 Jump Street (with Johnny Depp making a triumpant return a la Kelly in 90210 (which p.s. I don't watch).
=================
2) Had a funny conversation in the grocery store the other day.
Dude by the produce: Can I ask you a random question?
Me: Sure
Dude: What does a rutabaga look like?
Me: Uhh...I'm better with fruit questions.
He wanders off and asks another woman (who looks MUCH more domestic than me). And, if you're concerned, we saw him on the way out and he had in fact found a rutabaga. And if you don't know either, it looks like so (whoever had given him said rutabaga mission had told him it looked like celery...not so much):

3) I shouldn't have given the dog that bone. She stanks.

I'll miss you December!

December, you were a great, albeit odd, month. Not only did you have Christmas this year (and every year) but you also marked our official move to Austin. So what if it meant we lived for weeks with nothing but a bed (and even now have the majority of our furniture still in our "staged" house in Dallas) - at least we're in AUUUUSSSTTTIIIN! If only you'd sold our house too, you would have been perfect. Here's hoping January can swing that last bit. We'll miss ya December, thanks for all you do...

A fantastic new work team! (this photo was taken after lunch at Hai Ky in Westlake - highly recommend!)

A fun party with good friends (and more than one Cosby show reference)!

Yummy Home Slice (although certainly not particular to December)! Timmy = itty-bitty; Pizza = HUUUUGGGEEE

Dogs singing Christmas carols! (whoops, you're going to have to turn your head - apparently there's a learning curve on my new camera).

New work friends with funny accents!

Miller Lite! (claaassssy!)

New backyard for doggies!

Gourmet Christmas Breakfast! (IHOP)

And yummy Christmas dinner (jalapeno pork tenderloin, taters, green beans & brownie sundaes...mmm!)

BRING IT JANUARY!

Random catch me up...

Well, Tim and I are in Dallas getting ready to pack up some more stuff and bring it down to Austin. We're bringing a little bit of furniture (THANK GOD) so we'll actually be able to sit in our living room. Still leaving a lot of stuff here though since the house is still for rent/sale indefinitely and we want it to stay staged. Thankfully, we scored ourselves a cheap deal on a little truck.

I scrambled this weekend to finish up my holiday goodies before leaving so I could drop them off at the office. I rotate between toffee and peppermint marshmallows, and it was a marshmallow year. Mmmm...they're actually really easy and fun to make! Recipe is here if you're interested: Recipe Wrap two of 'em up with a packet of hot cocoa and a sprinkle of snowflake confetti and you have a sweet treat for co-workers and the like!

So, changing subjects, this makes me laugh...hard (goooooo Noodles!)

Also in "things that make me laugh"... Tim and I don't have cable in our new place in Austin. However, MTV Trece (Latin MTV) comes in. And on MTV3 is this show called Bust a Ritmo. The theme of this show is that you have a secret you need to confess or apologize for. So, in order to do that, you learn a dance in 24 hours, perform it for the person you need to confess to, and then have your confession. Um...what? Is this not the strangest premise for a show ever? So if you spent all the money your mom loaned you for school on acting lessons, or you cheated on your man - all you have to do is learn some sexy latin dance moves and perform them and then all is...better? less awkward? i'm still not sure i get it.

Will this save me from divorce?

There are a couple stupid things in Tim and I's relationship that could take us down - his directional retard-ness, my inability to get up in the morning without at LEAST 20 minutes of snoozing. I'm pretty sure I may see this under my tree this year.

Clocky
Introducing the alarm clock that runs away and hides when you don't wake up! Clocky gives you one chance to get up like a normal person. But if you try to cheat and stay in bed (you know who you are!), Clocky will jump off of your nightstand, alarm sounding, and wheel around your room looking for a place to hide. Fully adjustable: set it to snooze once before running away, or even not to run away at all. Clocky is genius!

I DIE!

You know how dudes are all, "I'm a legs man" or "I'm a butt man" when really they're whatever shakes their way in their direction kind of man? Well, I'm a shoe girl (if forced to choose), but after working at Fossil these past few years, my affinity for handbags has been fine-tuned, so to speak. So, maybe I am spending my morning looking at things online that I can't afford. I DIE (Rachel Zoe reference) for this handbag (and the boots, to boot).

(Chloe)

And in red, bananas! And...it's lamb leather, which is amazing.

(Chloe, Neiman Marcus)

Good news -- it only costs thousands of dollars but you also get a free purse hook (woo-hoo, I can totally justify it now (I'm kidding Mom)).

NEW PROJECT!

I have GOT to make one of these ('cept with our last name of course). A girl sent me a list to a whole bunch of letter photos to play around with.

(from The Nest message board (AbbysMom))

Bonus - a cute picture of Mike being all "C'mon Mom!" when trying to sleep.

Things I love...teddy bears, my little pony and i's dotted with hearts

Apparently, this is the impression I've made on my new co-workers. You see, I've had this cute little fella in my office for the past two weeks.

Well, the thing is, this gigantic cutie is actually a gift for one of the girls at the Settlement Home. The week I started at my new job, my department had planned a big concert with Del Castillo (who were GREAT by the by, even if I had no idea if they were singing about riding the bus or kissing a woman. They played and danced and sang ALL OUT on a Tuesday night in a little venue with maybe 100 people, you'd think they were playing for a stadium. I think the girls really had a lot of fun - they brought a thank you card to the band today and one girl had written "You were great especially the sexy one."). Anyway, that was the longest aside in parentheses maybe ever. So, where were we - department plans concert, raises money, and then we take it to go holiday shopping for the girls. My girl wanted a Giant Teddy Bear - so a giant teddy bear she will have (and Twilight, OF COURSE). I sent him to my office because, well, he's giant and didn't want him at home. Apparently, those who have visited or walked by have thought that this was my decor. Ouch... my taste sensibilities are assaulted.

However, I do decorate my office with reindeers like this little dude that made me happy all day.

P.S. Have you seen Secret Millionaire? It's on now, I'm getting the tissue box ready.

Yes, add this to my X-mas list!!

It's a creepy pajama man!

Lest you not recognize my jest...I'm kidding (MOM!)

Side note: It is WINDY in Austin and both my back patio door and the air vent on the roof are squeaking soooooooo loudly. I might claw my eyes out. Or ears. Ears would probably make more sense.

The Weekend in Pictures

After a change of plans late Friday, it was back up I-35 to Dallas for the weekend. We'll be putting our house up for rent (hopefully we have some luck that way). All in all, a good weekend with the dogs and the man (missing all of them too much!) The weekend in pictures.

A lot of this...

Sweet Mike... sometimes they're just too cute to yell at...

Yummy Sweet Tomatoes (Dallas, 1, as there is no Sweet Tomatoes in Austin) I'm no rookie at a salad bar yet I still can't master the balance. Everytime, I build a mountain and all my chick peas and croutons roll right off, practice has had no impact!

Some naps

And I finally broke in the gocco! It's so much fun, I can't wait to use it more. Can't reveal what I made as it would be an X-mas spoiler!

Finally...more of this.

BRING ON THE WEEK!

Jealous?

Thank you Austin for bringing me back for Home Slice (mmmmmm...). Not only is the pizza delish but the clientle is chock full of great people-watching hipsters. Unfortunately, my friend CL had a shocking confession over dinner. After all this ruse meeting us for dinner there over the past year, it turns out that she actually....wait for it... doesn't like their pizza?! Excuse me? That's like renouncing God IN church. An appalling revelation and cause for me to question our friendship. I'm still reeling. She claims her "turkey sub" was great but it's just wrong. Wrong I say (fist shake)!

Anyway, for my fellow believers...

Monday, December 1, 2008

Uhh....

Have ya seen this? Hopefully not before Thanksgiving! Oh...don't mind me, I'm just killing some turkeys back here -- could you wrap this up so I can turn this machine on? This here turkey's getting awfully fired up.

WHAT THE HAY would possess you to do an interview in front of a turkey guillotine. ESPECIALLY considering you just wrapped a campaign for VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

I just can't understand why the media was so hard on her (sarcasm). I maintain my assumptions that Alaskans must be weird to live in a frozen tundra.

Christmas wishes...

I've been OBSESSED with this scent since receiving a candle as a gift a couple years ago. And I just recently found out I can smother myself in this scent!

Also miss Starbucks an awful lot since choosing poverty...

Best. Dream. Ever.

There are a few things I love in life...synchronized dancing and sponteneous group singing being two. Last night I dreamt that Tim and I were in a bar and while someone was walking out they started singing a tune to themselves. Well, it was a catchy tune, so a few people started singing along and next thing you know the whole bar was singing (sadly, i can't recall the tune, but it had to be something like Sweet Caroline or Lean on Me, where you just can't help yourself). I was GIDDY in my dream because, well, this just doesn't happen in real life. But there it was happening! (albeit in a dream, but in my dream I didn't know that). We then went to another location and it happened again (what are the odds, it was my best day ever). We then went to a Karaoke bar and a new work friend of mine was singing a song that was so funny that (in my dream) i was laughing so hard that i couldn't breathe or stand up.

then...i woke up. Boo... spontaneous singing doesn't happen in real life, it's the stuff of high school musicals and, I guess, dreams. But why not, we all know Sweet Caroline and Lean on Me, why can't we just sing it all together? (please?) Say, in line at the grocery store or mid-meeting. Last night, at a Toastmasters meeting a man gave a speech about letting out your Inner child. My inner child would like to be let out to break into song in random situations. Oh, and if we all knew the dances that went with said songs, even better.
